STEP 6: FAFSA Update
It's important that you complete your 2010 federal income tax return as early as possible. No double-extensions to October 15th this year! Any financial aid award that your student receives will be TENTATIVE until the SAR has been updated with ACTUAL 2010 filed income tax information.
Many parents (not GCF family clients!) - when completing financial aid forms - fail to perform this critical step every year! They call us in the fall after their student has entered college and tell us they never received any type of award from the college, not even a Stafford Loan! With VERY few exceptions, the cause of this is that the final (updated/revised) FAFSA form was never filed.
2010 Taxes Earlier Than Usual?
Upon completion of your 2010 federal income tax return, fax or scan/email your return to us at 866.676.8679. Refer back to STEP 2 for the specific documents we need from you. We will update your FAFSA and you will receive notification (from ED) of yet another Student Aid Report ready for retrieval - just as described in STEP 5.
