FAFSA Form Processing

The FAFSA form is the grand-daddy of financial aid forms used by the government and colleges to assess a family's need eligibility.  FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

The FAFSA form is required by the colleges in order to qualify for federal and state need-based financial aid and in many cases, university grants as well.  It's a federal form and is administered and governed by the Department of Education.

With few exceptions every student should submit the FAFSA to every college to which they're applying.  Even for families ineligible for federal and state grant programs, an approved FAFSA form is required in order to receive the most popular education loan, called the Stafford Loan.  This is a federal entitlement, deferred- payment student loan and is currently set at $27K for 4 years of the undergraduate college term.
